Parking and Doors to Platform

Wednesday 5th September 2007

Last year the club were asked to help sort out the doors leading up to the platform as anyone confined to a chair had difficulty trying to open the doors towards them. I also requested that the disabled parking spaces be painted on the ground and the numbers of the parking bays be painted on the walls, now you might think this was a silly request but if someone parked over the numbers on the ground you could not see what number that bay was and more often than not it was non disabled who parked on them.

Well a letter has been received from David Holden who has informed me that:

  1. The doors have now been fitted with fire regulation closers that mean the doors stay open but if the alarm goes off they close themselves.
  2. The disabled bays in the Alan Kelly car park have now been painted and the numbers for all the bays in that car park have been painted on the walls to correspond with the parking pass to be displayed in the windscreen.

It was also requested that those in wheelchairs who had no other way of getting to the ground have reduced parking fees but that one wasn't won, which is disappointing as these supporters cannot get on any other way and let's face it even a reduction would have been a help.

Anyway, overall the outcome is pleasing.

PNEDSA Join Up With PSG

Saturday 1st September 2007

PSG and PNEDSA are pleased to announce that they have now joined forces. Through this partnership it is hoped that the needs of the disabled supporters will be heard to a greater extent. PNEDSA also will have a dedicated section on the website.

Barbara McCombs, founder of PNEDSA was very pleased with the merger.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to the Chair and the committee of PSG for accepting the PNE Disabled Supporters Association as part of their organisation. After 6 years of being a small splinter group we have now been accepted by the leading group of supporters at PNE. It is wonderful that we can now give our support for the group as part of PSG and we will be supportive of all they do. We will still have our own committee, who in turn will ensure the needs of the disabled will be taken into consideration at all events. I am sure you will all wish with me a long and happy association of PSG and PNEDSA together."

PSG Chairman Geoff Ollerton was equally pleased.

"It was fantastic to welcome the PNEDSA on board. From now on as a part of PSG they will have a bigger say and a bigger chance of being heard, they are now a very important part of the biggest supporter group at Preston North End."
